Art
In Art and Design, we aim for pupils to experience a broad and ambitious curriculum, building strong skills and knowledge by the end of each key stage. Our curriculum is guided by the Kapow scheme, taught weekly, and ensures clear progression and high-quality learning.

We follow the Artsmark Quality Principles and are proud to hold a Gold Award. We strive to provide inspiring, inclusive and engaging experiences that support every child’s creativity, confidence and sense of belonging.
We believe all children are capable learners with unique talents. We offer rich artistic opportunities, including trips, visits and the chance to achieve an Arts Award, enabling children to enjoy meaningful creative experiences. We also frequently visit the local care home to share our love of arts with the residents.
Our curriculum is carefully sequenced through a progression map, allowing pupils to revisit and build on skills over time so they know more, do more and remember more. Children explore drawing, painting, printing, collage, textiles and sculpture, while studying a range of artists to develop their understanding of style and influence.
Sketchbooks, used from Year 1 onwards, support the development of ideas and showcase progression. The curriculum encourages creativity, experimentation and critical thinking, helping pupils understand how art reflects and shapes history and culture.

We further enrich learning through partnerships with local artists. Art is celebrated across the school through displays and events, including termly gallery assemblies, helping to build a strong and creative school community. Our gallery is situated in our hall and includes a piece of art from each class from EYFS to Year 6
