Year Group Progression

Impact – Assessment of foundation subjects

It is important for us to assess the impact of our curriculum, as we want our children to leave Hadrian with a wide knowledge and understanding of the world. By clicking on your child’s year group you will find a set of knowledge organisers. These contain the key knowledge that your child will learn throughout the year. This knowledge will be assessed using low stakes quizzes. Although they will touch on many more exciting facts during the academic year, the knowledge organisers should help your child organise their thoughts and highlight the most important facts that we want them to remember before they move to the next year. These are working documents, and up-to-date ones will be given to children as they start each topic.

For subjects such as history and geography, we need to assess the children’s skills as well, which will be done through more open-ended written tasks. We have developed these assessment tasks through close work with secondary school teachers, so that we are confident that the children will be ready to tackle the challenges of the next step of their learning journey when they leave us.

For creative subjects such as music and art, observation and collection of work for a portfolio will be used as ongoing assessment of the children’s achievements.

Music Development Plan

At Hadrian Academy we aim for all our pupils to develop a life-long love of music, in a school with a musical atmosphere through a wide range of quality musical experiences which engage and inspire them. At the heart of the music curriculum are creativity, curiosity and excitement and children who are developing increased self-confidence, self-esteem and collaborative skills. We aim to build a curriculum with musical sound at the cornerstone with a progressive pathway for every child. Music opportunities will support children’s mental health and allow them time to express their emotions.

Children will perform, listen, analyse, sing, improvise and compose music and understand the musical elements as building blocks within music.

All schools are encouraged to have a music development plan, as set out in the national plan for music education.

Our music development plan is attached below.

Something for Summer Concert - The Grove 1st July 2024

The Hadrian students performed wonderfully on – both the instrumentalists and the singers!  Such great ambassadors for the school!
